Kubernetes School

Chapter 3 · Kubernetes School

Meet the School Buildings

Classrooms need a building to sit in.

What is a school building?

A classroom cannot float in the sky by itself.

It needs walls, floors, power, and space.

In our computer story, each school building is called a node.

A node is a computer that can hold pods.

Just like a building can hold many classrooms, a node can hold many pods.

So:

the node

is the

school building

(a computer)

the pod

is the

classroom inside

A cartoon blue octopus principal pointing at school buildings labelled NODES. Inside each building, classrooms labelled PODS sit with walls, floors, and space. A speech bubble says buildings hold classrooms.
The buildings are there to give the classrooms a place to live.

The principal and the buildings

The principal does not teach in every classroom.

The principal decides which building each classroom should open in.

If one building gets too full, the principal can open a new classroom in another building.

If a building has a problem, the classrooms inside it may need to move.

The principal watches the buildings too.

What matters is that the lessons keep running.

The buildings are there to give the classrooms a place to live.

Classrooms lived inside buildings

In chapter 2, we met the classrooms (pods).

In chapter 1, we asked for three maths classrooms.

Those classrooms lived inside school buildings (nodes).

What happens next

And our digital school is only getting started.

Next, we will explore how the principal keeps the right number of classrooms open on purpose. →
